Old Debate of Stephen Meyer vs Peter Ward on Intelligent Design (ID) and Darwinian Evolution
I have been watching this video of a debate between Stephen Meyer and Peter Ward.
I have to say that Stephen Meyer is so much more persuasive than Peter Ward. I have no idea who Peter Ward is, but his arguments are all personal attacks and political. I am just very surprised because if there was a real argument against Intelligent Design wouldn’t Peter Ward bring up more scientific arguments instead of making it political by bringing up George Bush? Then he makes a claim that if you believe in intelligent design then you must never take an anti-biotic? This is a flat out lie of the position of ID.
Another argument Peter Ward makes is that if we do have an intelligent designer that he must be really bad at it because so many species have gone extinct.
Peter Ward keeps saying “It’s not a theory”. How childish - like he just doesn’t want it to even be considered. Reminds me of today’s cancel culture! He keeps trying to make Stephen Meyer seem stupid, but Stephen Meyer’s responses are SO much more thoughtful and detailed. By refusing to consider ID as a theory and just trying to ridicule it just makes me think he has no scientific arguments against it. In fact, if you listen closely this is exactly what he says in so many words.
This debate was at the “Talk of the Times Debate” in Seattle on April 26th, 2006. This is about 1 year after Intelligent Design was declared “unconstitutional” in the case of Kitzmiller vs Dover. I remember some debate about this at the time, but I was not paying close attention. I remember thinking at the time it was some fundamentalist Christians trying to force God into education….I am sure that is how it was portrayed in the media.
Now that I have lived through a pandemic where the agenda of the government and the media was so apparent and so obviously anti-scientific and full of censorship it makes more sense to me how the other side works. When they cannot properly debate something they just try to shut it down and censor it.
The very interesting thing to me is Peter Ward talks about ID being political and that science in school is being so politicized. Look at how politicized gender ideology and everything else is. We are being told today that math is racist. Is that scientific? What is the real scientific argument on that?
I just want to see a real scientific debate folks. If we cannot be specific and make good arguments that can be readily understood, where are we going?
